Happy Black History Month!
Many of you know and supported iThings 2 Collard Greens, the summer program I founded last year in which 52 girls were exposed to the teachings and philosophy of Nannie Helen Burroughs, Mary McLeod Bethune, Dorothy Height and Maggie Lena Walker – four dynamic ancestral African American women of the 20th century.  It was a huge success and we are gearing up for this year!
My son, Corcoran Holt, a jazz musician in the tradition of the elders, and a student of our very own, Dave Yarborough, will be in concert for our annual February fundraiser (which is also an excuse to celebrate my birthday!). Corcoran (see corcoranholt.com )is a very seasoned musician who currently plays and tours with Kenny Garrett, The Heath Brothers and other well known jazz musicians of our time (and of yesteryear!). Tickets are only $20.00 and the event will be held at Seekers Church on Saturday, February 23 from 5:30 – 9:30 pm.
I hope you can join us to hear some good jazz and hear about a back-to-basics life-skills summer experience for girls.
You can contact me at 202-368-8721 or Senghor Baye at 202-256-2518 for tickets. Checks should be made payable to Arts for Our Children, Inc. – the non-profit which sponsors the camp.
Thank you so much for your support!
